Notes on the Good Life from a Baby of Leisure

Once the rigorous cappuccino inspection is completed successfully, . . .

. . . the drink must be consumed at once.

One must always stike a pre-slide pose when adoring fans are watching.

Get out among the commoners as often as possible.

And finally, throw the adults a bone every once in a while and let them do something for themselves.

You get all that?

The baby has spoken. . .

. . . and she said "ball".

It sounds more like "bow", but I'm counting it, since she says it whenever she sees a ball (and then she tries to steal the ball from whomever may be playing with it at the moment).

It's not "mommy", but I'll take it!

Ciao!

Some of Alice's daily activities here in Sestri Levante are just a little bit different than what she's used to back in DC.

She's really had to adjust.
For example, she's been a real trouper about having pastries for breakfast instead of her usual dry Cheerios eaten directly off the highchair tray.

And she hasn't complained at all that the Connecticut Avenue traffic and pollution she's accustomed to have been replaced by boats bobbing on the water and sea breezes.

She's found comfort in the constants in her life: activities such as taking a nice stroll . . .

 discovering new stuff, . . .

. . . and just acting silly.

She sure is resilient!

Mornings at the Park

Ever since summer hit, Alice and I have been walking Matt to the bus in the morning, and then heading to the park to work in an early morning visit.

It's not as hot and sticky when the sun's not so high in the sky.

The gazillion kids that show up at 10am are still eating their Cheerios.

So Alice can run around without fear of getting knocked down or getting in the way of the bigger kids.

She can surf on the slide.

And crawl on the bridge.

And linger all she wants at the bottom of the stairs.

And all that running around has helped us hang on for just a few more weeks to the morning nap, which I suspect would otherwise have gone the way of the third nap, the toothless grin, the itty-bitty onesies, the bald patch on the back of her head, and the late-night cry fests (good riddance to those).

I guess my baby's not such a baby anymore, is she?

Banged Up

Poor little Alice bonked her mouth.

She's such a fearless new walker that sometimes she gets a bit too ambitious and takes a tumble.  Nothing unusual for a kid her age, I'm sure, but her little fat lip after the last bang just broke my heart.

We just had to try to cheer her up with some ice cream.

Actually, I think I was more sad about it than she was, so I also needed to be cheered up with ice cream.

I think it worked on both of us.

A Little Grumpy

I think she caught on that I gave her a battery-less cell phone.

Fourth of July Weekend

What a great weekend!

First of all, Alice discovered the magic of Sesame Street.

She stayed in that exact position for at least 8 minutes straight. Long live Elmo!

We cooled off in the pool and Alice yelped in greeting at all the kids around us.

We took a trip to the zoo, but didn't manage to take any photos.

Today, Alice got all dressed up in her finest Cubswear.

And we all headed out to the game to see them in person.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend too!
