Say "Aaah"

Alice is all about exploring the world via mouth these days. If she can reach it with her hands, it goes directly to her mouth.

Anybody have any barbecue sauce?

She has also been experimenting with different noises and shapes that her mouth can make.  Blowing raspberries is a favorite, as is a new party trick involving sticking her tongue partway out over and over in quick succession. Trust me, it's very charming. It's going to score big points in the middle school cafeteria one day.

However, the most exciting mouth-related development (I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I actually started a sentence with that phrase) is, brace yourselves:
Alice enjoyed her first non-milk meal of rice cereal.

She was skeptical at first.(And Matt was obviously very serious about the whole operation.)

And maybe a little confused.

And we had to fight her at every mouthful for control of the spoon, since she  was determined to operate that thing all on her own.

But all in all, I'd say it was a great success!

Vicious Cycle

When Alice gets cranky, aiming the camera at her and snapping a few photos usually proves distracting enough to curb the tears.

The tricky part is that these days, when I take close-ups of Alice, she is no longer content to act as mere subject.  She wants to get behind the lens or, more accurately, get the lens in her mouth.

The problem with allowing her to do this becomes apparent when I lose control of the camera, causing her to bonk herself on the head mid-grope.

And then we're right back where we started.

Splish Splash

What's this?

 Hmmm. Nice heft. Supple.

Is this Egyptian cotton?

Let's bring this thing a bit closer for inspection.

Oh yes, I believe I know what this is for.
Lovely mouth-feel.  I'm picking up notes of Ivory soap and chlorine.

May I have another, Mom?
